Job Description

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Oversee the health care of individuals served.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1.                  To coordinate and supervise the agency’s health services to clients.

2.                  To supervise and maintain the agency’s health record of individuals served.

3.                  To provide supervision and oversight to agency licensed practical nurses according to state licensure standards including evaluation and documentation of said supervision as per requirements.

4.                  To provide supervision of the Medical Coordinators and other health care staff.

5.                  To ensure that all individuals served receive required medical, dental, vision, hearing and/or other required exams or screenings in a timely manner.

6.                  To monitor, as required, self-medication programs.

7.                  To develop client health goals in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team.

8.                  To oversee the instruction of staff members in first aid and emergency techniques applicable to care and supervision of clients.

9.                  To administer and monitor required specified client care plans.

10.              To consult with the contracted dietitian concerning nutrition and dietary needs of all clients and specifically concerning specialized dietary needs.

11.              To oversee, observe and maintain records on symptoms and conditions of clients, including the provision of advice to parents and/or guardians and appropriate staff members.

12.              To oversee the agency’s medication administration policy and procedure.  Oversee medication storage and Medication Administration Record audits in all programs involved in medication administration.

13.              To consult with physicians and other health professionals regarding specific health issues of clients and staff, specifically regarding recommendations and follow-up.

14.              To administer health maintenance vaccines to staff as authorized.

15.              To develop client health forms as required or needed.

16.              To review selected client incident reports and respond with recommendations.

17.              To ensure compliance with Department of Health and Division of Mental Retardation regulations.

18.              To perform other duties as assigned.
 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Certification as Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee.

Work experience in a related area is desirable.

Ability to be insured as a vehicle driver by agency's insurance program.

A valid driver's License.

Good knowledge of basic English sufficient to read instructions, keep records and write reports.

Successful completion of background and reference check.

Successful completion of a drug screen.

Successful completion of medical examination that documents that employee is free of communicable disease and is capable of performing the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
